GreenWave Looks to Help Homeowners with “Smart Energy”

By Andy Torrez | Staff Writer | GreenTech TV

Earlier this month, GreenWave Reality introduced a home-management platform for that creates smart energy-efficient homes.

The GreenWave Reality platform connects all home appliances through a secure network and allows users to monitor and control energy usage from a home display or remotely via the Internet or a smartphone.

According the GreenWave, all appliances can be connected through a home area network that is made up of “a concurrent radio gateway, smart power nodes, in-home display and controller along with an intuitive and engaging consumer application.”  Through the power nodes, users can control, and make appliances more energy efficient.

Once home appliances are connected to the network, GreenWave’s “energy coach” takes information gathered by the systems and analyzes each device’s energy usage.  The system then offers users a “smart control” based off the data and allows users to shut off devices that are not in use.

"GreenWave Reality has created an open, standards-based platform with a modular design to interoperate with existing and new devices such as digital thermostats, heat pumps and electrical cars," said Martin Manniche, Chairman and CTO of GreenWave Reality. "The platform is also designed to provide utilities a highly secure solution that can scale to millions of users."

The company also said the platform helps utilities enable a better balance of energy distribution on the grid and allows them to get a better understanding of consumer’s energy consumption and usage patterns.

Utility companies can use data collected by GreenWave Reality’s platform to “shift demand from peak to off-peak times or better incorporate the use of renewable energy sources,” the company says.

According to GreenWave Reality their focus is to partner with utilities to provide an affordable solution that delivers a great consumer experience, enabling them to build deeper relationships with their existing customers and attract new ones.

Currently, the system is in its testing phase with a few utility companies in Europe. GreenWave is offering the system for home owners in Europe, Asia and North America.
