Leading environmental and waste management experts will be assembling at the 11th Intelligent Use of Water Summit. To be held at the Smithsonian Institution in Washington D.C. on April 15, 2010, experts will be examining successful state and municipal government methods of water conservation.
The focus of this summit will be to provide insight into:
- water conservation policies and legislation
- water conservation programs and initiatives
- water waste reduction
The Summit panel will feature city and state municipalities and water agency officials whom have a proven record in implement water efficient programs. Select panelists include:
- Paul Goble, City of Indian Wells, (Indian Wells, CA)
- Karen Guz, San Antonio Water Conservation Dept. (San Antonio, TX)
- Elizabeth Hurst, Inland Empire Utilities Agency (Chino, CA)
- Karla Wilson, EcoWorks Unlimited, on behalf of Missouri Botanical Garden, Missouri Dept. of Natural Resources and Metropolitan St. Louis Sewer District (St. Louis, MO)
- Alice Keyes, Conserve Georgia (Atlanta, GA)
- Doug Bennett, Southern Nevada Water Authority (Las Vegas, NV)
Each panelist will have an opportunity to present their water conservation case study, explaining successful water conservation strategies and initiatives.
“Reduced water availability presents a significant challenge for city and state municipalities as they need to implement conservation programs that, despite being necessary, are not always welcomed with open arms by the audiences they serve,“ said Rain Bird Corporate Marketing Director Dave Johnson. “The representatives on the Intelligent Use of Water Summit: State of The Union panel have demonstrated success in implementing creative programs that have achieved increased water efficiency through education and innovation.”

There will be an environmentally focused symposium, hosted by Susan McGinnis, a veteran energy and environmental journalist. According to the Summit, the focus of this symposium is to analyze the environmental effects of water use and conservation.
The Summit was established in 2004 by Rain Bird in order to define a relationship between landscape water use and water conservation. By gathering environmental and water conservation experts, effective water conservation strategies can be shared over a large group.
Rain Bird hopes that this summit can host an effective communication network regarding water conservation strategies and initiatives to be shared and implemented for greater environmental responsibility.
